Oh! The Journeys We Take!
When you look at the world differently, your experience of life changes. And you can change your perspective consciously, deliberately.
Your life is a journey.
You probably have no difficulty accepting that. You are born and one day you will die and everything in between is your life’s journey.
But you probably do not consider that, within this massive journey, you take many, many detours and each one of these is a journey in its own right.
Do you have a beer with friends in the evenings and hang out at a bar?
Each one of these is a journey.
Do you read my blog? This too is a journey.
Do watch movies or binge watch Netflix?
These are all journeys.
You probably do not think of these as journeys, but they are and I would like you to see them as such.
Let’s say you watch 24 hours.
That is a journey. It takes you to a place where America is always threatened by bad guys from a particular part of the world and the good guy is being chased by thugs and emissaries of the bad guys. The good guy does things like capture one of his pursuers and break all of his fingers till he tells him where the person who hired him lives and then that person suffers a similar fate till he disgorges the name of the next person in the chain and so on.
You get caught up in the thrill and the adrenaline starts pumping.
What would your life be like if you asked yourself “Is this a journey that I want to take? Does it take me to a place where I want to spend time?”
Many of the detours that are actually mini journeys are quite short and you are busy and time pressed so you probably will not ask these questions before every such jaunt.
But do ask them as frequently as you can and certainly before embark on important undertakings.
If you ask these questions sincerely, changes happen in your life.
The persons you spend time with, the topics of conversation you bring up, the books you read and the movies you see, they all change.
And as you go on more journeys that you have actively, consciously decided to take, joy becomes a bigger presence in your life.
The method is simple. The effect is huge.
